1) The earliest manufactured XLPE cable insulation worldwide used steam to apply heat to cure the XLPE.
2) This process introduced moisture and other contaminants into the insulation resulting in water trees and premature failures. The local experience with this cable has been much better than that in most other countries.
2) This child is surrounded with unfilled cross-linked thermosetting polyethylene insulation.
3) The insulator molecules are bonded on a 3 dimensional network after the polyethylene has undergone vulcanization under high pressure steam, in presence of chemical cross linking agents.
4) This insulation is then surrounded with XLPE shield which is further covered with copper shielding tape-lapped.
5) All the three cores are wrapped with taped P.V.C inner-sheath which is further wrapped with galvanised steel armour wire. Remaining space is filled with plastic cable fillers. And the entire assembly is covered with P.V.C jacket
