Principle And Working Of Centrifugal Pump

Centrifugal pump:

A pump or hydraulic machine in which mechanical energy is converted into pressure energy by means of centrifugal force action on fluid is called as centrifugal pump.

Centrifugal pump consists of impeller, rotating inside casing.

This case has an opening which allows liquid to enter from suction pipe.

The impeller has blades either mounted on shaft and this shaft is rotated by motor and incoming

liquid is forced to move in direction of rotation of impeller causing centrifugal force on particles.

These particles which will be thrown on casing, builds pressure and when sufficient pressure is built these particles are forced out through delivery pipe.

An increase in the fluid pressure from pump inlet to its outlet is created when the pump is in operation.

This pressure difference drives the fluid through the system.

The centrifugal pump creates can increase in pressure by transferring mechanical energy from the motor to the fluid through the rotating impeller.

The fluid flows from the inlet to the impeller center and comes out along its blades.

The centrifugal force hereby increases the fluid velocity and consequently also the kinetic energy is transformed into pressure.
