Copper can withstand higher temperature than aluminum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(ii)With the recent increase in kVA capacity of the power\ndistribution system, the cables are expected to carry short circuit currents of\nhigher magnitudes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(iii) If it is required that the cables should be predicted\nfrom higher temperature during short circuit, it is essential that the fuses\nshould be designed to minimize the fault duration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(iv)HRC fuses are best suited for low tension power supply\ncircuits, because of the following reasons<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. They limit the magnitude of short circuit current.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. They minimize the fault duration time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(v)Under short circuit conditions the current flowing the\ncable is many times the full load value of current. The heat produced in the conductor\nis proportional to the square of the current.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(vi)The duration of short circuit is very small. The\ntemperature attained under short circuit conditions is greater than the maximum\npermissible temperature for continuous rating<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(vii)The short circuit is not defected by the condition of\ninstallation of the cable but it depends upon the maximum temperature attained\nby the cable under short circuit condition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(viii)The safe value of limiting temperature is usually\ntaken as 120\u00b0C. for maximum continuos operating conductor temperature of 80<sup>0\n<\/sup>C and a permissible temperature rise of&nbsp;\n50<sup>0<\/sup> C during short circuit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Short circuit rating of LT cables : (i)The short circuit for aluminum cables is different for copper cables.
