Finer cement offers a greater surface area for hydration and\nhence the faster and greater the development of strength. The fineness of\ngrinding has increased over the years,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"244\" height=\"207\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zillionsbuyer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/fineness-of-cement.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1448\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But now it has got nearly stabilised. Different cements are\nground to different fineness. The disadvantage of fine grinding is that it is\nsusceptible to air-set and carly deterioration. Maximum number of particles in\na sample of cement should have a size less than about 100 microns. The smallest\nparticle may have a size of about 1.5 microns. By and large an average size of\nthe cement particles may be taken as about 10 micron. The particle size\nfraction below 3 microns has been found to have the predominant effect on the\nstrength at one day while the 3-25 micron fraction has a major influence on the\n28 days strength. Increase in fineness of cement is also found to Increase the\ndrying shrinkage of concrete.
