Hence, the name <strong>&#8220;submerged arc welding<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The arc melts the parent\nmetal, the electrode and the flux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fused flux produces a\nblanket of liquid slag which forms a protective envelope both around the arc\nand the welding zone. Right beneath the electrode tip a weld pool is formed,\nholding an amount of molten metal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On melting, the electrode\nmetal forms globules which go over into the puddle and mix with the molten\nparent metal, The pressure of the arc forces the mix out of the puddle so that\nit forms the weld.This action continues as long as the arc advances.
