{"id":551,"date":"2020-06-23T15:24:53","date_gmt":"2020-06-23T15:24:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zillionsbuyer.com\/blog\/?p=551"},"modified":"2020-08-05T07:32:46","modified_gmt":"2020-08-05T07:32:46","slug":"what-is-the-color-rendering-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zillionsbuyer.com\/blog\/what-is-the-color-rendering-index\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Color Rendering Index"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>colour rendering index<\/strong> (CRI), sometimes called as <strong>colour rendition index<\/strong>, is a\nquantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reveal the colours of\nvarious objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Light sources with a high CRI are\ndesirable in colour critical applications such as photography and\ncinematography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is defined by the International\nCommission on Illumination (CIE, in French) as the effect of an illuminant on\nthe colour appearance of objects by conscious or subconscious comparison with\ntheir colour appearance under a reference illuminant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CRI of a light source does not\nindicate the apparent colour of the light source. That information is under the\nrubric of the Correlated Colour Temperature (CCT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CRI&#8217;s ability to predict colour\nappearance has been criticized in favour of measures based on colour appearance\nmodels, such as CIECAM02 and for daylight simulation, the CIE metamerism index.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CRI is not a good indicator for use\nin visual assessment, especially for sources below 5000 kelvin (K)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Numerically, the highest possible CRI\nis 100, for a Black body (incandescent lamps are effectively black bodies),\ndropping to negative values for some light sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Low pressure sodium lighting has\nnegative CRI, fluorescent lights range from about 50 for the basic types, up to\nabout 90 for the best tri phosphor type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Typical LEDs have about 80+ CRI,\nwhile some manufactures claim that LEDs have achieved up to 98 CRI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A newer version of the CRI, R96a, has\nbeen developed but it has not replaced the better known Ra general colour\nrendering index.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The colour rendering index (CRI), sometimes called as colour rendition index, is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reveal the colours of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source.
