When the <strong>system resistance<\/strong> changes, the operating point also changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the operating point\nis fixed, the power required could be found by following a vertical line that\npasses through the operating point to an intersection with the power (BHP)\ncurve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A horizontal line drawn\nthrough the intersection with the power curve will lead to the required power on\nthe right vertical axis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(3) System characteristics\nand fan curves :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In any fan system, the\nresistance to air flow (pressure) increases when the flow of air is increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pressure required by a\nsystem over a range of flows can be determined and a &#8220;system performance\ncur can be developed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This system curve can then\nbe plotted on the fan curve to show the fan&#8217;s actual operating point at &#8221;A&#8221;\nwhere the two curves intersect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This operating point is at\nair flow Delivered against pressure P A fan operates along a performance given\nby the manufacturer for a particular fan speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fan performance chart\nshows performance curves for a series of fan speeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At fan speed N, the fan\nwill operate along the N performance curve as shown in Fig given below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(4) Fan laws:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fans operate under a\npredictable set of laws concerning speed, power and pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A change in speed (RPM) of\nany fan will predictably change the pressure rise and power necessary to\noperate it at the new RPM.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The factors involved in fan performance evaluation and efficient system operation are as follows: (1)System characteristics : The system resistance is the sum of static pressure losses in the system.
