The factors involved in fan\nperformance evaluation and efficient system operation are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(1)System characteristics :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system resistance is the sum of\nstatic pressure losses in the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It varies with the square of the\nvolume of air flowing through the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long narrow ducts with many bends and\ntwists will require more energy to pull the air through them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, the system resistance increases\nsubstantially as the volume of air flowing through the system increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2) Fan characteristics :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fan curve is a performance curve\nfor the particular fan under a specific set of conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Typically a curve will be developed\nfor a given set of conditions usually including : fan volume, system static\npressure, fan speed, and brake horsepower required to drive the fan under the\nstated conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The intersection of the system curve\nand the static pressure curve defines the operating point. When the system\nresistance changes, the operating point also changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the operating point is fixed,\nthe power required could be found by following a vertical line that passes\nthrough the operating point to an intersection with the power (BHP) curve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A horizontal line drawn through the\nintersection with the power curve will lead to the required power on the right\nvertical axis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(3) System characteristics and fan\ncurves :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In any fan system, the resistance to\nair flow (pressure) increases when the flow of air is increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pressure required by a system\nover a range of flows can be determined and a “system performance cur can\nbe developed<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This system curve can then be plotted\non the fan curve to show the fan’s actual operating point at ”A” where the\ntwo curves intersect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This operating point is at air flow\nDelivered against pressure P A fan operates along a performance given by the\nmanufacturer for a particular fan speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fan performance chart shows\nperformance curves for a series of fan speeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At fan speed N, the fan will operate\nalong the N performance curve as shown in Fig given below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(4) Fan laws:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fans operate under a predictable\nset of laws concerning speed, power and pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A change in speed (RPM) of any fan\nwill predictably change the pressure rise and power necessary to operate it at\nthe new RPM.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
