This is the\nmain component of the plant which develops power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Generally\nengine is coupled directly to the generator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(2)Engine fuel system :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nincludes fuel storage tanks, fuel transfer pumps, strainers, heaters and\nconnecting pipe work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuel\ntransfer pumps are required to transfer fuel from delivery point to storage\ntanks and from storage tanks to engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strainers\nare needed to ensure clean fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heaters for\noil may be required especially during winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3) Engine air intake system<\/strong> :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nincludes air filters, ducts and super-charger (an integral part of the engine).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose\nof air filters is to remove dust from the air to be supplied to the engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system\nsupplies the required quantity of air for combustion,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nsupercharger Increase the pressure of air supplied to the engine so that it\ncould develop an Increased power output. They are generally driven by the\nengines,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(4)Engine exhaust system:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nincludes silencers and connecting duets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the\ntemperature of exhaust gases is sufficiently high heat of these gases is\nutilized in heating oil or air supplied to the engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The silencer\nreduces the noise level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(5)Engine cooling system:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nincludes coolant pumps, cooling towers or spray ponds, water treatment of\nfiltration plant and connecting pipe work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose\nof cooling system is to carry heat from engine cylinder to keep the temperature\nof cylinder within safe limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pump\ncirculate water through cylinder and head jackets to carry away heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, the\nsimplest cooling system would need only a water source, a pump and a place for\ndisposal of hot water<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Usually,\nhowever, the same water is recirculated by cooling it in devices such as\nradiators, evaporative coolers, cooling tower, spray ponds etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(6) Engine lubrication system:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nincludes lubricating oil pumps, oil tanks, filters, coolers, purifiers and\nconnecting pipe work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The function\nof the lubrication system is to reduce the friction of moving parts and reduce\nthe wear and tear of the engine parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(7)Engine starting system:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nincludes storage battery, compressed air lanks, self starter etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The function\nof the starting system is to start the engine from cold by supplying compressed\nair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
